Telling the (old) story in new ways

Telling the (old) story in new ways
January 27-28, 2020

Story is at the center of our world, from the relational stories told on social media to the carefully crafted advertisement narratives and immersive stories on television, streaming services, and on the big screen. The church has a rich story to tell, but we don’t always do the best job sharing this story in media that are constantly changing. For two days you will be immersed in story work, with keynotes that will inspire you to develop your own story and learn the stories of others, workshops that will help you build skills for storytelling in a digital age, and time to connect with other storytellers to hone your craft. Participants will walk away with:

  • newfound inspiration for the rich story that we have to share

  • practical skills for storytelling, both in person and digitally

  • a network of storytellers who are honing their craft and building community around God’s story of liberation for the world

Keynote presentations will provide inspiration and workshops will enable you to build skills for leadership.

Marlon’s talk will be a whimsical and willful adventure to explore some ethnographic tools we can all use to bring the human into our stories. A story is just as much a where we are as it is a what we tell. Discover the Rituals, Values, and Daily practices that enrich our shared stories.

David Hansen

Too often, the story we tell of our congregation is one of hardship, conflict, and decline. As we enter a new era in our culture and the church, Pastor David Hansen shares how new perspectives and new tools can transform how we tell our congregational story.

Natalia Terfa

The co-hosts of Cafeteria Christian, a podcast for people who love Jesus but aren’t too sure about his friends, Natalia Terfa and Nora McInerny will talk about the ways that authentic questions and conversations about faith and doubt have built community and church for people who have been bruised by church in the past. With humor and brutal honesty, Nora and Natalia will talk about this community and, in a live-show format, invite participants to experience the community as well.
