Has long been on my calendar
Because
She has long been
A prophetic
Source of
Inspiration,
Wisdom,
Solace,
And yes Courage.

I wrote this book as voice, as consolation and encouragement, as vision and dreaming, as truth telling, as healing.

I was decades old
Before I realized
The presence
Of the absence
Of women’s narratives,
Women’s stories,
Women’s voices
In the Lectionary,
In regular, weekly Christian worship.

What about when I open the door for someone whose arms are full? When I stopped to smell the lilacs while walking in my neighborhood? When I didn’t respond to that mean email with another mean email? Let this offering be acceptable, O Lord.

I would like readers to know that despite discrimination against ordained women, "through many dangers, toils, and snares," there is a significant way through, by the grace and guidance of God.

We imagined a future of the world in 2070. Positive and negative. We imagined a future of spirituality in the world in 2070. Positive and negative. We imagined what we would want for spirituality and church in that year.

... we too often given short shrift to the hard work of understanding why we believe what we believe and what shapes our foundational values and deeply held convictions around so many important issues, not least of which is money.

From the depth of my heart, I beg readers not to say, “I can’t believe it! This can’t be true! That would never happen in my church," ... Instead, “I see you; I believe you,” is a more faithful and compassionate response to the violence of racism perpetuated in our churches.

During Lent this year,
I had a hard time
Not rushing ahead
To Easter.
Perhaps,
It is because
Of the state of the world.
Perhaps,
It is the season 
In my own life.
Perhaps,

Of being human

Stories from an Unintentional Preacher is a highly personal memoir of a time when women were finding their way to work for which they felt called, moving against challenging odds with fortitude, compromise, and persistence.

The Church living into its call to economic justice can lead the way both by diminishing its own economic power to pay off debts and finance reform, but also to advocate for an end to predatory practices.

A eulogy is different from many other words we share at a life-transition moment... It is a moment to reflect on the fullness of the person’s life, allowing others to have their experience of the departed.

Masculinity is a mirage, not a destination. This pernicious illusion doesn't merely deceive our eyes; it torments our souls with the promise of an unattainable ideal.

Relationships, welcome, and safety have a social impact...I want the church to be known as a powerful witness of God’s welcome, safety, and belonging. “To Be Seen and Heard” is a call to action of authentic dialogue and a vision of the church in and outside of the church building.

The “Our Father,”

“The words that Jesus taught us to pray.”

They have been prayed

Millions,

And millions,

And millions of times.

My hope is that anyone interested in immigration might pick up this book in order to learn a little about some of the people who are primarily affected by our nation’s broken asylum system.

By denying ourselves access to the halls of grief we also deny ourselves access to what is sacred, healing, and vital.

…I saw bitter fruit in all its forms of pain and hurt. How contempt for those unable to pull themselves up by their bootstraps leads to making decisions based on interpretations of efficiency rather than care.

As Christians, health around the world matters to us because it matters to God. […] God calls us to love our neighbors, serve the “least of these,” and address injustices.

I love the liturgy.
